Obituary for Walter L. Kindsfather
WALTER LEE KINDSFATHER, 79, passed away unexpectedly on March 3, 2020. We are truly heartbroken to see him leave us so soon. Dad was born in Billings, MT on October 24, 1940 to Arthur and Lydia Kindsfather. He married Gail Ann Lohnbakken on April 27, 1962, and they shared 49 years together while raising two daughters and many four-legged pets.
Dad started working at Montana Flour Mills while in High School, later he worked for Alsco Linen. His career of 35 years as a Salesman for Lorillard Corporation, Dad traveled the eastern part of Montana and Wyoming. Dad was very proud of his 35 years with a perfect driving record. Not that he didn't have a stack of $5.00 bills with him for the Highway Patrol. Dad retired in June 2001. After retirement Dad started his part time job at Air Methods which he loved.
Dad was one of a kind, if you had the chance to meet him you would know immediately. He could carry on a conversation with anyone. Dad had a true interest in everyone he met. He was a perfectionist, a good listener, a patriot, a worrier, he was goofy, caring, and family and friends were an important part of his life. He took pride in everything he did, you could even eat off his garage floor it was so clean. Dad had more collections than most; model airplanes, military helmets and patches, lighthouses, eagles, clocks, oh so many clocks. He could be found frequently browsing The Army Navy Store.
He was also known as Omega Man, Kooter Balls, Bill Mason aka Walter. Dad had a passion for American and world history and anything military. Dad enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, his dogs, camping, air shows, chasing hot air balloons and going to the cabin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Gail, brother Don, Dogs- Buffy, Smokey Joe, Levi, Checkers, Lucky Dog. Walter is survived by his daughters, Kim (Dennis) Tallant; Geri (Rick) Kinsfather; four grandchildren Michael and Lauren, Sydney and Aaron, siblings Gene (Barb) Kindsfather, Bev (Bill) Ostermiller, Dick (Munien) Kindsfather, and several nephews and nieces.
We want to thank the staff at Billings Clinic, Riverstone, and Aspen Meadows for always taking good care of Dad. In lieu of flowers Dad would encourage you to donate to your charity of choice. We will love you forever Dad, rest in peace.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 13, 2020 at Pilgrim Congregational Church. A reception follows and then interment of the urn at Mountview Cemetery. Condolences for the family may be shared at www.smithfuneralchapels.com.
